The hair in the mod looks more practical imo. Trimming those bangs to stop them getting in your eyes would be a pain. The most practical would be to not have annoying short bits in the front at all, if you want to see what you are doing. OFC a prominent pony tail an enemy can easily grab is also a drawback.
